How One Can Make a Difference

Teams from across Southwest Virginiaincluding architecture, engineering and construction firms, along with high schools and collegesare committing their time and talents to design and build canned food sculptures. Each team raises funds to purchase their cans, which are generously offered at a reduced cost by Kroger, a presenting Canstruction sponsor.

Construction rules are specific: sculptures must fit on a 10‐foot pad, cans must be structurally self-supporting and teams may not use glue to alter cans or deface labels. A jury determines winning sculptures in various categories, winners are announced at opening night festivities, and then the sculptures are on public display for two weeks. Award‐winning teams from Canstruction Southwest Virginia’s event qualify to compete internationally.

Canstruction team rules are also posted on our News & Information page.
